Kunstpedia Foundation: Curators of Art Knowledge

Who We Are

The Kunstpedia Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the interest in and appreciation for fine and applied arts, but excluding contemporary arts.  The foundation manages the website (www.kunstpedia.org) which provides rich and freely-accessible content in the form of articles, e-books, and blogs, supplied by a variety of contributors including art historians, collectors, galleries, dealers, and museums.  It was launched in 2008 for the benefit of the general public and all those involved in fine and applied arts, be it professionally or otherwise.

How We Work

Kunstpedia governs itself on the principles of ‘meritocracy’, whereby responsibilities to volunteers and employees are assigned on the individuals’ merit, in terms of their specific skills and knowledge relevant to the task at hand.

Mission

Bringing Fine and Applied Arts to the Masses
Kunstpedia aims to form a link between the general public, with potential interest in fine and decorative arts and those with a specialized background and passion who hold the knowledge. To this end, it encourages anyone who is “in the know”, with a dedication to sharing the cultural riches and enjoyment the arts can bring to peoples’ lives, to become involved – whether to supply content for the website, become a partner, or support the aspirations of the foundation in any other way.

Our Motto

The motto the foundation has adopted as its own is a quote by Henry Ford:

“Coming together is the beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

Goals

Independent Knowledge Base
Kunstpedia strives to provide an open platform for like-minded people and organisations to distribute and share their specific knowledge, as well as allow others to benefit from it, for the greater purpose of stimulating interest in learning more about fine and applied arts. The foundation believes that by creating a collective knowledge base people, will be encouraged to learn more and become actively involved in the arts through visiting galleries and museums, and/or exchanging their views with fellow enthusiasts.

Means and Tools

Internet
The Kunstpedia Foundation facilitates the creation of a community of enthusiasts who hope to increase awareness, knowledge, and passion for this pillar of our civilisation and human history: that of fine and applied arts. Kunstpedia.org is the channel that will make this possible, as the internet is easily the medium of choice for communication and knowledge-sharing in our age.

Content and Projects
As well as keeping the website furnished with interesting and stimulating articles and features, Kunstpedia is also negotiating with publishers to digitalise and republish e-books which are compatible with all reading devices, Smartphones, and handheld computers. However, the foundation is also keen to develop its own material through initiating projects on a regular basis, such as the creation of collective e-books, whereby several parties from different backgrounds and organisations contribute content to create the finished product.

Becoming Involved

The foundation’s effectiveness as a public resource depends upon the valuable contributions and participation of those willing to make information available to all.
